Repertoire includes: Espana, Hungarian Rhapsody, Celebration Suite, Rainbow Connection/Somewhere Over The Rainbow. James Wood Marching Band in Field Competition at the V.B.O.D.A. State Marching Festival. MILESTONE: This performance earned the marching band it's first Superior rating at State Festival. Repertoire includes: Georgia On My Mind, Dueling Banjos, Dancing Men, Still. Soloists were Mike Ebert-Trumpet (Georgia On My Mind) and Brian Bishop-Saxophone (Dancing Men). James Wood High School Marching Band in exhibition performance during the fall of 1983 with the Marching Virginians of VA Tech and John Handley H.S.. The Bands repertoire includes: Georgia On My Mind, Linus & Lucy, Dancing Men, and Come Sail Away. Soloists were-Mike Ebert on Trumpet (Georgia On My Mind), Brian Bishop on Tenor Saxophone (Dancing Men) and Rocky Roach on Flugle Horn (Come Sail Away). MILESTONE: 1983 was the year in which the JWHS Marching Band would earn it's first title as Virginia State Co-champion with this show. In this recording, alumni and boosters may easily recognize the announcer who introduces each song before the band plays.

AUDIO-Fall 1985 Field Show (V.B.O.D.A. State Marching Festival)
|
James Wood Marching Band in V.B.O.D.A. state marching festival championship competition. Repertoire includes New York Fantasy, Ruslan & Ludmilla, My Favorite Things, Memory and Overture from CATS. Soloists include Brian Boyd & Bill Tenney (New York Fantasy) and Larry Cain (Memory and Overture from CATS). MILESTONE: This performance earned the band it's 3rd state co-championship with a record score of 95.4 defeating rival Charlottesville High School. 1985 was also the last year that VBODA held a marching festival where a winner was determined, thus eliminating any possibility for a 4th State Co-championship. NEW! James Wood High School Marching Band in Field Competition at the 1986 West Virginia Strawberry Festival in Buckhanon, WV. Musical selections include: Artistry in Rhythm, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, La Suerte De Los Tantos, Memory/Overture from CATS. MILESTONE: This performance earned the JWHS Marching Band Grand Champion of the field competition with a very high score (in the 96 point range if memory serves) and a win over Lincoln Senior High School of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This is a restored audio recording of the marching band field show from Spring 1987. The recording was made at Franklin Field on the Campus of The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The band was preparing for a competition in Wildwood, New Jersey. The repertoire included: Artistry in Rhythm (Stan Kenton), Festive Dance (Drum Solo), Lucretia MacEvil(Blood, Sweat & Tears), *missing from the recording is Don't Cry for me Argentina (Andrew Lloyd Webber), Celebration Suite (Chick Corea?).
